Geo numbers fall into two main categories: non-geographic numbers and Geographic numbers. Non-geographic numbers are cloud-based numbers such as 0800, 0844, 0845 and 0871. For the caller, calls to 0800 numbers are free from a UK landline, whereas there will be a set charge for 0843, 0844, 0845 and 0871.

Geographic numbers are 01, 02 and 03 landline numbers that live in the cloud. These can give a company a virtual nationwide presence – for example a manchester based company wishes to have a presence in London. They simply have a 0207 number that will ‘point’ toward their 0161 number. This also has the added bonus of saving money by removing the need for installing office space or installing new lines and phone systems.
